Art Book Fairs, 101
1:00pm - 2:00pm
What is an art book fair? Why are they important? And how do they inform small publishers and their practice? As art book fairs proliferate across the globe and self-publishing is recognized as an art form of its own, it’s no wonder that many people are curious about this niche world that seemingly only special collections librarians were aware of.

As part of the second annual Pittsburgh Art Book Fair, please join PABF co-director Caroline Kern (Pegacorn Press) as she discusses everything art book fair related with Adriana Monsalve (Homie House Press), Clare Lagomarsino (Combos Press) and George Wietor (Issue Press).

The importance of fairs within small publishing, the community-building aspects, each panelist’s personal experiences within this world, and the nitty gritty details of navigating and thriving within art book fairs will be discussed. There will be time for Q&A at the end of the conversation.

Paper Cuts
Podcast Live Recording
3:00pm
Paper Cuts is a podcast and publishing platform that documents the contemporary world of zines, book arts, comics, and small press publications. During the Pittsburgh Art Book Fair, Paper Cuts will host a live podcast recording and conversation with Forrest Lawson of Sissy Boy Press, Rachel Jackson and Brandon Bandy of Special Effects, and Charlie Welch.

Infinite Arrangements “make and take”
Facilitated by Kate Fitzpatrick
10:00am-4:00pm, Sculpture Courtyard

Myriorama originally referred to a set of 19th century illustrated landscape cards which could be reordered to create a multitude of different  stories using the images. In this workshop, participants will collaborate with each other and create their own set of myriorama cards using a variety of drawing materials. In addition, participants may also create a pocket accordion book to hold their own set of cards.  A myriad of expressions should result in an ever-changing collaborative artwork where patterns emerge and can be arranged in many possible combinations. Come explore that constant movement of composition and infinite interpretations that myriorama can offer.

Dreaming Through Zine Making
Facilitated by Neta Bomani
3:30pm-5:00pm, Art Studio
REGISTER
Calling all teens! In this workshop, we will learn about zines and how they are tools for self expression, collective dreaming, and community organizing. Zines have played a significant role throughout history. This workshop argues that zines are critical and artful tools that can be used for many different reasons. By the end of the workshop, participants will make a zine featuring a dreamy recipe to share with their community, like a recipe for care, joy, protection, or organizing.
